Neurodermatosis

When Neuro- meets -dermatosis you get…..a neurotic with case of the itchies .

Seriously speaking, neurodermatosis is the term for any skin disease, defect or lesion that is proximally caused by neurotic behavior — things such as vigorous scratching or compulsive skin picking. The parent-term for any skin disease is dermatosis. The origin of a neurodermatosis is said to be psychosomatic, not environmental. There are a whole host of reasons for picking and injuring the skin to the point that a neurodermatosis results.

Neurodermatosis for Compulsive Finger Pickers

Fingers with hard, built-up calluses resulting from compulsive finger picking qualify as a neurodermatosis, as do injured or bloody cuticles and nail folds.
